Alumni Message – Fall 2012

Dear CU Alumni,

It seems like only weeks ago that we celebrated Homecoming 2012.  The weekend kicked off Friday evening with the Alumni Party on the Patio at the Catron Alumni House. The attendance was outstanding, and several generations of our great alumni were represented.  For many, including myself, Saturday was a first.  Our Cumberland University Bulldogs hosted the first Homecoming game at the newly renovated Nokes-Lasater Field.  This was the perfect setting for the new home of CU football.  The tailgating was incredible, and the atmosphere was wonderful.  If you didn’t get a chance to join us this season, I do hope that you will plan on supporting the team next year.

I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award winners who were recognized for their personal, community, and University involvement:  Mitchel Bone, Karen Amundson, and John Britt. These awards are well deserved, and I encourage you to read about their outstanding achievements in the feature article of this magazine.

On behalf of the Alumni Board of Directors, I would like to extend our congratulations on the 20th year anniversary of the Rudy School of Nursing. This program has been instrumental in the success of the University.  Our nursing alumni continue to be well prepared and highly visible in our communities and medical centers.

In January 2013, our Alumni Board will be electing new officers. In closing, I want to thank all the alumni, Alumni Board members, and the Office of Advancement for having the opportunity to serve as president. Our Alumni Board is truly moving in the right direction, and the growth and involvement of its members have increased by leaps and bounds. It is my sincere hope and belief that the future is very bright for all our alumni, and I look forward to seeing Cumberland at the forefront of higher education in the Middle Tennessee region and beyond.

Thank you for your support and the support you give to CU.
